Does it really work for people like me?

Online public speaking exposure has been scientifically proven to work extremely well.

Researchers from the University of Tampa and Massachusetts General Hospital explored whether videoconferencing and virtual reality could help people overcome their fear of public speaking.

Participants in their studies learned to accept their feelings of anxiety while giving online speeches—just like we do at AmberWillo. They joined therapy sessions remotely, meeting once a week for six weeks through video calls.

In the first study, participants only used videoconferencing. In the second study, they also practiced speaking at home using video clips of virtual audiences.

Before, during, and after the treatment, participants filled out questionnaires about their anxiety levels. They also rated their feelings and performance after each speech.

The results were amazing.

By the end of the studies, participants reported much lower anxiety and felt more confident in their speaking skills. These benefits lasted at least three months after the study was over. Everyone in the study was happy with the results; in fact, every participant said they’d recommend it to a friend.

What’s interesting? Practicing with online and virtual audiences at home was just as effective as practicing in person.

So, what does this mean for the future? Research shows that online and virtual settings can be just as effective, if not more so, than in-person sessions for overcoming public speaking anxiety. Here’s why:

  1. Convenience and Flexibility: With online tools, you can schedule your sessions whenever you want, wherever you are. No need to find a venue, travel, or work around someone else’s schedule.
  2. Easier Start: Online settings lower the barrier for those who are too anxious for in-person sessions. You can practice and improve from the comfort of your home.
  3. Quick Results: Online exposure allows for more practice in less time. The more you practice, the faster you’ll conquer your anxiety and build confidence.

In short, you don’t have to step foot on a stage to beat your public speaking fears. Leverage these new technologies and become the confident speaker you aspire to be.
